Q. How long have you been making clothes?
A. I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in 1995 and started working for X-Large Manufacturing and X-Girl in L.A. I started my own line of clothing called Monkeywench in 1996 and closed it down in 2000. I started my current line Angela Johnson in 2001.
Q. What is your favorite type of clothing to make and why?
A. I love to make my staple T-shirt Ballgowns, T-shirt Party Dress and T-shirt Mini Dress. I’ve been making them since 2001 and have made so many of them that I’m really fast and efficient at making them. But at the same time, each one is made with different T-shirts every time I make one, so it’s new and interesting and creative every time.
Q. Where can one purchase your clothing?
A. Most of my sales are on my website www.angelajohnsondesigns.com, but I also sell in a few boutiques nationwide and on other “indie” designer websites. You can find a list of where I sell on my website. I also have a studio in my home where my customers can come and get fitted and try on clothing and I have some items at a studio space called Local Talent in downtown Scottsdale.
