The Arizona Renaissance Festival

This Saturday 12 North Photography had the awesome privilege of photographing the amazing Arizona Renaissance Festival and what an experience it was! Everything from the food to the talented staff of performers was extraordinary. I defiantly learned why people travel from all over the state to be apart of it.

There were so many amazing performances on the many stages at the festival all with something fun and interesting to offer. But I would have to say the one that stood out to me the most was a dark dressed masked man by the name of Frank Della Penna and his carillon. The music he played truly rang out across the fair ground bringing in a large audience of curious and excited listeners. Frank Della Penna also let 12 North Photography use his song “Red Earth” as the music for our video of the Festival. You can learn more about Frank Della Penna by following the link at the end of this post.

At the center of the Arizona Renaissances Festival is of course the joust. This is where the four knights of the realm come together in what was supposed to be a simple test of their skills. Instead it turns into an all out fight which leads  a four-way joust to the death competition where there can only be one victor. What a war it was and an exciting one at that equipped with horse battles, sword fights, fire, blood and 100′s of screaming spectators to add to the realism of the action.

In the end I would have to say my experience at the Arizona Renaissances Festival was a great one. It was as if I had walked into a movie because it truly had it all; romance, drama, action, adventure, comedy, etc. I will say that most of the time when you hear the phrase “fun for the whole family” if your like me you think fun for kids and maybe some mild entertainment for people over the age of 17. But this is not the case when it comes to the Arizona Renaissances Festival. It truly has something for the whole family to enjoy that is why I strongly suggest you go attend before it’s over!

The Arizona Renaissances Festival runs every weekend until April 1st! So don’t miss out on all the fun and excitement of  one of the best Ren Fairs around!

Countdown to the Lockdown

By now you might probably know that I am a huge horror buff and have a great fascination of the paranormal. On Saturday May 12th the Orange County Paranormal Society will be hosting “The Yuma Territorial Prison Lockdown” which is a fundraising event intended to raise money for the Yuma Territorial Prison Museum. The 7 hour long event will consist of a full paranormal investigation of some of the most reportedly haunted locations in Arizona, Special guests and much more. 12 North Photography has been asked to photograph the event and of course I jumped at the opportunity! To celebrate this awesome fundraiser I present to you “Countdown to the Lock Down” which will be a monthly series of fright filled photographs and stories! Each photo series will include some more information about the lockdown and it will all be concluded with photos and stories from the lockdown on May 12th! So if you can make it to Yuma or live in the area be sure not to miss this event!

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the photos in this post and don’t miss next month’s “Countdown to the Lockdown”. Also, if you have any suggestions for a scary story or personal experience with the paranormal that you think would make for a great photo series leave it in the comment section below! If your story is selected I will make sure to give you credit in the post!

Cupcake! A Fetish Themed Dance Party

This past Friday 12 North Photography was at the Rogue in Scottsdalefor Cupcake! Which is a monthly fetish themed party hosted by fashion designer Suzy Homewrecker. There was a live performance from Miss Krystle and Bent Self followed by some epic beats courtesy of DJs Dark Mark, Self Destrukt, Blonde Noize and Defense Mekanizm as well as Troop 666 Go-Go’s  decked out in Hell on Heels Couture.

Who ever said the Devil wears Prada has obviously never been to this party. Here anything goes for clothes including but not limited to fishnets, pasties, leather, chains, wigs, you name it! Suzy Homewrecker’s ”Hell on Heels Couture” as seen in the photo above is a wild mix of Glam and Fetish giving us a much-needed break from the typical and cheesy Go-Go dancer outfits we have come to expect over the years. More than anything her clothing is both unique and stylish, so if your into alternative style I strongly suggest you check out her website!

It wasn’t just the fashion that made this an amazing party. Musically it was a powerhouse starting with an amazing performance from Miss Krystle and Bent self; who performed songs off of their latest albums.  Miss Krystle’s beautiful singing voice and magnificent stage presence mixed with the vocally hard-hitting Bent Self made for an amazing show. DJs Dark Mark, DJ Self Destrukt, Blonde Noize and Defense Mekanizm closed the night with a truly brilliant assortment of music that kept the party hopping the whole night. Now when you match two amazingly talented DJ’s with beautiful Go-Go’s and an awesome unique crowd, then you’ve really got yourself a party to remember.

If you missed the Cupcake Fetish Party don’t kick yourself yet. It is a monthly event so you still have a chance to throw on your favorite fishnets and get out there. For more information about dates be sure to join Cupcake on facebook by following the link at the end of the post.

Project Ethos -Scottsdale

Friday, Project Ethos hosted a night of Music, Art and Fashion at Scottsdale’s Axis Radius and 12 North Photography was there to photograph it! It was an amazing night featuring local fashion designers like Rebecca Turley and live music by “SNAKE! SNAKE! SNAKE!” If you missed it don’t worry because Project Ethos will be returning to Scottsdale November 11, 2011!

The center piece of the event would have to of been Vitamin Water Zero’s - Flavor Fashionista Challenge. In this Project Runway style face off local designers were given a flavor of Vitamin Water Zero along with the task of designing a garment based off of that flavor. The garments were then showcased on the runway and the audience voted for their favorite.

The competition was spectacular; it seemed like a scene out of  Thunderdome, with the surrounding crowed of spectators screaming and calling for their favorites. But at the end of the night there could only be one.
