Twelve North Magazine Issue 1

It has always been a dream of mine to start a magazine, where I could share not only my photographs but all of the amazing people I have the opportunity to meet because of them. I am very excited to announce that this dream has finally taken shape in the form of “Twelve North” which is the official magazine of 12 North Photography! It will be small at first, running at about 30 to 32 pages. If the magazine is a success I hope to raise that number to around 80+ pages. The magazine will consist of 2 major features which will include never before seen photographs as well as tons of new and old photos from some of my favorite shoots. If I was asked to categorize the magazine I would have to say it was a lifestyle publication, consisting of everything from fashion, cosplay, art, music, etc. New issues are released bi-monthly and will be available to purchase in both print and digital formats.

Issue 1 of “Twelve North” features Cosplayer Jessica Nigri on the cover and inside will have 7 never before seen photos of Jessica as Juliet Starling from the soon to be released game Lollipop Chainsaw. The first issue of “Twelve North” is set to release May 17, 2012! On this date I will have the purchase link posted both on 12 North Photography’s facebook page and here on the official blog of 12 North Photography. I hope you all enjoy the magazine and as always thank you all so much for your support!

The Legend of Zelda Cosplay

This weekend I had the awesome opportunity to work with Arizona Cosplayers Jason Zarecki (who is cosplaying The Legend of Zelda’s central protagonist Link) and Mario Villegas (who is cosplaying antagonist Ganon). They are both members of the Cosplay group Hyrule which is a regional costuming group based on The Legend of Zelda series. The shoot was a ton of fun and the costumes as you can see were amazing! The Legend of Zelda was one of my all time favorite games growing up so when I was asked to do a shoot based off of the game I of course jumped at the opportunity. I hope you all enjoy the pictures!

Ash Ketchum Cosplay

Arizona Cosplayer Jessica Nigri and myself collaborated on this photo shoot as a special release to celebrate her facebook fan page reaching 100,000 fans. This is an amazing feat to accomplish but as most of you already know Jessica is an amazing person. The idea for the shoot was to do something fun and different and seeing as how all of our past shoots together were dramatic and dark, we decided it would be fitting to do something bright and colorful. Jessica’s costume choice for this shoot was very fitting as well seeing as how she first hit the Cosplay scene as Pikachu. Since then she has cosplayed dozens of characters, some of which can be seen here on my blog (Skyrim, Mortal Kombat, Black Cat, etc) I hope you all enjoy the photos and be sure to stop by Jessica Nigri’s fan page and say hello!

Special thanks to Angelica Virgie and Paris Sinclair

Blood Elf Cosplay

Here are some photos I recently did with the amazing Arizona Cosplayer Lindsay Elyse. As well as being a member of the Cosplay group XX Girls, Lindsay is also an avid gamer especially in The World of Warcraft, an online game whose popularity can only be described as nothing more then a phenomenon; with upwards to 11 million players from all over the world. It is this game where Lindsay found her inspiration for her costume, which is based off of the Blood Elf a race from the WOW world.

I hope you all enjoyed the photos and as always thank you for stopping by my blog!

Black Cat Cosplay

Working with Jessica is always awesome and her Black Cat Cosplay is definitely one of my favorites. Black Cat is an amazing character in the world of Marvel’s Spiderman and was created by Marv Wolfman. Her costume was originally designed by the late comic book artist Dave Cockrum, who is best known as the co-creator of X-Men characters Storm, Nightcrawler, and Colossus.

In my research before the shoot I learned a lot of cool facts about the charecter and thought it would be cool to share them with all of you. Many people believe that Black Cat is Marvels answer to DC’s Catwoman, when in fact it was actually based on the Tex Avery cartoon “Bad Luck Blackie” which was about a black cat who brought misfortune to anyone whose path it crossed. Felicia Hardy (Black Cat) was actually portrayed as the low-cut black costume wearing, professional cat bugler with a steady relationship with a superhero almost a decade before DC’s Catwoman; who at the time was known only as “The Cat” a mask-less pick pocket in a green dress and love interest of Batman.

One more fun fact about Black Cat is that Marv Wolfman actually made the charter as a villain to Spiderwoman and it wasn’t until he changed writing assignments to “The Amazing Spiderman” that he brought the character with him.  I hope you all enjoy the photos and thank you for stopping by my blog!

Knightingail Comics: Assassin Eloa

Last week I had the opportunity to shoot for the amazing comic book Knightingail. I’ve got to say that the prep for this shoot was probably one of my favorites, because it included reading comic books. My goal was to bring The Dark Princess character (also known as Assassin Eloa) out of the pages and into real life. With an amazing cosplayer like Jessica Nigri as my model achieving this was easy.

The photos in this post are just a sample of what’s to come. The others are going to be turned into posters and sold on Knightingail Comics website, so be sure to like them on facebook for their release date! I hope you all enjoy the photos and don’t forget to visit the links at the bottom of the page!

Mortal Kombat Cosplay

A few weekends back I had the great opportunity to work with 3 amazingly talented Arizona Cosplayers; Jessica Nigri, Rosanna Rocha and Paris Sinclair. The result was an awesome set of Grindhouse style Mortal Kombat photos. I chose to go with a Grindhouse theme because I feel that Mortal Kombat definitely falls under exploitation category. Like Mortal Kombat, Grindhouse films (or exploitation films) have always been infamously violent and share many similarities to the game. For example Cannibalism was a common theme in Grindhouse films and with characters like Mileena (modeled by Rosanna Rocha) it reigns true in the Mortal Kombat series as well making Mortal Kombat in my opinion one of if not the best fighting game ever made. Thank you for stopping by my blog and I hope you enjoy the photos!
